Christmas Tree Update

I am sure a lot of people back home in Indiana were wondering....Where do they sell real Christmas trees in New York City? Well, here is your answer...they sell Christmas trees in the same place they sell everything worth buying...right on the street.

Now It's Your Turn

Alright everyone, I think I have done a relatively good job of providing an insight into my time here in New York. Now I want something from you. I don't really know who is reading this and I can only imagine that even though I originally started this blog to update my family members , some people come here from FWOB and don't even know who I am. Don't get me wrong, I think that is great. However, I want you to ask a question about New York, whether or not you've lived here or never been here. I'll post the answers to the questions in my next post. So there you go...the floor is yours....

The Bell is Back!!!

The Monon Bell belongs to DePauw again! Congratulations to the DePauw football team for a huge victory over Wabash. It was a very close game and DePauw won with a field goal with only 2 seconds left. The game was tied 21-21 until then. I watched the game at a bar in New York with both DePauw and Wabash alumni present. It was very fun to be with all the alumni while watching the game and everyone was thrilled, except for the large number of Wabash alumni. This is the first time DePauw has won in my 3 years at the school so it is a great day for me. Thanks for the congratulations from Mitch over at Fort Wayne Observed.

The two pictures are the final scoreboard and the students rushing the field after the game.

Late Night with Conan O'Brien!

Last Friday Jacob and I went to Late Night with Conan O'Brien at NBC. The guests were Jerry Seinfeld and David Ortiz with special cameo appearance by Larry King. We sat in the 2nd row and it was awesome! I have included a few pictures from when Conan walks out into the audience. I pulled these right off the show so if you saw it, we were there as Conan walked by. We are in the second row, Jacob is in the 3rd seat from the aisle and I am in the 4th. I am wearing a blue shirt that kind of stands out. I hope you can figure out who we are. Check it out!

New Album!!

New York 10/20/07

Column by Dan Swartz

This column was in the Journal Gazette a few days ago, written by Dan Swartz, an artist who just moved back to Fort Wayne from NYC, and I found it on FWOB (see links to the right). If you came here from FWOB, then you have probably already seen this but I wanted to pull a different excerpt than Mitch did.

There is an obvious difference between Fort Wayne and New York City, and the former will most likely never have the same cultural force as the latter. But Fort Wayne has many things that are impossible to find in New York as well, for instance, starry nights, clean streets, ridiculously low rents, the idea of “just chilling” with friends, cheap food and beer, and real nature. I couldn’t help notice that as so many people told me that I was crazy to move back, there was also a sign of longing in their faces for the things that I described to them and the confidence that I had in knowing that this is the city that I desired, minus the billionaires, skyscrapers, museums, celebrities and, in general, sublimity that sway so many.

Are You Ready for This? I know you've been waiting...

This is the bathroom you see when you first walk in the door. The window doesnt close so as we move towards winter, the bathroom can get quite chilly. There is also a subway map as a curtain so people can not see us showering. Classy...I know. Now we move towards the kitchen/living room/family room/study. It is hard to get a feel for how small this common area really is, so trust me, it's small.

The couch, television, and kitchen are all within 5 feet of each other. There is soooo much room.
This is my room. Sorry mom, try not to cringe. It's not dirty...just messy. You know.

This is Jacob's room. Very nice.

Note the blowup mattress which I think is much better than my actual mattress.
Feel free to post questions about our wonderful living arrangements!
